Low-Cal Cinnamon Sticky Buns

5

You’re walking through the mall. Suddenly, you get a whiff of sweet, cinnamony goodness. It travels through your nose and into your mind, producing thoughts of ‘should I or shouldn’t I?’ The indulgent, highly caloric, go to the gym for the rest of your life food court sticky bun.

Now, I don’t know about you, but if that was served to me at a gourmet restaurant, I would lick the plate clean, but something about that overly processed, mass-produced variety just doesn’t quite settle with me properly. The taste however? Well, that’s an entirely different story. What I’ve made here is a nod to the original in a less cloying sugared kind of way.

I’m a big fan of Laughing Cow spreadable cheeses (No, this is not an endorsement and I’m not getting paid to write recipes for them…although I’d welcome the opportunity if you know a guy) because at 35-45 calories a wedge, a little bit goes a long way. I had some Pillsbury breadstick dough left from my garlic and herb breakfast cup experiment (I’m not in a contract with them either. Dammit.) and this idea just came to me. Literally. As in, I shot out of bed yesterday morning to run downstairs and try these.

You’ve got the warm, pull-apart dough, the sweet, cinnamony creaminess and the stick-to-your fingers fun of it all–while keeping your waistline svelte. Seriously friends. You will not be disappointed.

Ingredients:

Makes 12 cinnabuns

1 tube Pillsbury Breadstick dough

2 packages Laughing Cow Cinnamon Cream Cheese Spread

1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar (or make your own by mixing together equal parts of each)

1 1/2 tablespoons agave syrup

Instructions:

Pull apart perforated breadsticks and spread one wedge of cinnamon cream cheese onto each strip.

Roll the dough into a spiral.

Repeat the process until all breadsticks are coated and rolled. Place buns side by side in a baking dish.

Top each bun with 1/2 teaspoon agave syrup and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon sugar.

Bake for about 20 minutes and top with caramelized agave from the bottom of the baking dish.

Eat and enjoy fitting into your jeans during your next trip to the mall!
